05.11.2008

*Be the first in the world to see the sunrise in 2009 at the Rhythm &
Vines festival in New Zealand.* *Set against the beautiful backdrop of
the Waiohika Estate vineyards, Rhythm & Vines is the ultimate New Year
celebration. Taking place from 29th December to 1st January, the best
local talent will play alongside a host of top international artists,
with over 120 performances across 4 stages. *

Now in its 6th year, Rhythm & Vines focuses on bringing fun loving
people together in one of New Zealand's most scenic and sunny
locations – Waiohika Estate! The lineup for this year’s event is also
it’s most ambitious to date and set to be huge "We hope music lovers
will be excited about the direction that Rhythm & Vines is heading in.
The line-up reflects a new and diverse change in the direction of New
Zealandmusic. We're very proud to be promoting so much Kiwi talent this
year alongside a massive international line-up, never seen before in New
Zealand." Enthuses Program Director and founder Hamish Pinkham.

Amongst the highlights - *The Kooks*, playing their first and only New
Zealand show, will open Rhythm & Vines on the 29^th December alongside
Scotland’s finest *Franz Ferdinand*. On the big night of 31^st December
*Digitalism* will play an exclusive live show and New Zealand’s
favourite band *Shihad *will lead into the all important countdown,
followed by the mighty *Carl Cox* who will journey party goers through
the worlds very first sunrise set of 2009!

And the fun doesn’t stop at Waiohika Estate! Rhythm & Vines will be
bringing you a full week of beach side action at the ‘BW Campgrounds’.
Located just 10 mins from the main festival site the camp will include
surf competitions, volley ball tournaments, competitions, celebrities
and the massively popular "BW Bikini Jam" with a show stopping line up
of pre parties and after parties. This year will also feature an
additional camping area called ‘Band Camp’ due to increased demand and
10,000 passes being sold already. Band Camp will be the perfect place to
chill out away from the hustle and bustle of the main camping areas and
is only 700m away from the beach. So, if you want to make the most of
your stay in Gisborne, dust off the bikini and take full advantage of
this killer week from the 27th December until the 2nd January! Book your

Launched in 2003, Rhythm & Vines was the idea of University friends
Hamish Pinkham and Tom Gibson, who had the idea to organise an event for
their friends to join at one central scenic location – Gisborne. The
next step was teaming up with local Gisborne lad Andrew Witters who
agreed to use the amazing purpose-built concert amphitheatre at Waiohika
Estate for their inaugural event. Since then Rhythm & Vines has grown
into a spectacular 3 day event attracting over 16,000 people and this
year it set to be the biggest and best yet.

If you can’t wait till December and want to check out some of the
hottest New Zealand artists, get down to Koko on Saturday 30th August.
The event is called 'Endeavour' will feature kiwi rock band ‘The Checks’
and current media darling ‘Ladyhawke’. Other acts include Nathan Haines
and Rodney Fisher with more special guests still to be announced. For
