Over 190,000 visitors passed through the festival gates and were entertained by 600 performances on 25 stages. The Main Stage played host to top international artists including; Arctic Monkeys, Lily Allen, Moby, Manic Street Preachers, Kraftwerk, Madness, Korn, Patti Smith and by no means least, The Prodigy! – who rocked the fortress in their own unique way, revving up the crowd to insanity leaving everyone in a state of euphoria.
“It was great honour to be back at Exit Festival for the second time and play to the Serbian people. They made it something to remember for us, it has a crazy wild side that only very few festivals have. Bring us back again! We fukin’ luv it. Come on!!!” The Prodigy
The Dance Arena celebrated a Decade in Dance by reuniting some of the best DJs to have performed over the years, for exclusive back to back sets. Having already earned itself a solid reputation and is highly regarded by many as the best in Europe - if not the planet - this feat has never been done to such a massive scale anywhere before making the b2b sets a monumental landmark in the festival’s history.
“Playing for EXIT this year was something of a very special party and the way all the DJs got to play back to back was absolutely amazing! It gave the crowd something completely unique and very special for the celebration of 10 years of EXIT. I had an amazing time and thought it was absolutely exceptional the way the crowd stayed with us until the morning and had a celebration. I felt honored and proud to be asked to do this and I hope that I get to play at EXIT a few more times in the years to come.” Carl Cox
DJs playing b2b included; Sasha vs John Digweed, Richie Hawtin vs Dubfire, Eric Prydz vs Adam Beyer, Sander Kleinenberg vs Darren Emerson, James Zabiela vs Nic Fanciulli, Steve Lawler vs Lee Burridge, Steve Angello vs Sebastian Ingrosso, Loco Dice vs Magda, Kissy Sell Out vs Alex Metric, Paul Woolford vs Yousef, Heidi vs Justn Martin, Hannah Holland vs Tayo and not forgetting Carl Cox vs Green Velvet who closed the festival in true EXIT style, with Carl sporting a 'Dance Arena Save My Life' T Shirt and a massive grin. And the 20,000 strong crowd joining in with Green Velvet’s ‘La La Land’ was a true EXIT moment! That 20,000 crowd stayed until way after the sun had rose over the fortress walls, which was truly mind blowing and unforgettable, closing at 8am with nothing but smiles all around!! Spectacular to say the least!
The 10th Birthday was also about showcasing some of the best cutting edge and upcoming talent from the world of electronica on the Happy Novi Sad Stage in association with MySpace stage featuring; Circo Loco presenting ARPIAR, Sin City with N-Type & Hatcha, Get Familiar with Sinden and Fake Blood and the Institubes with Surkin, Das Glow and Orgasmic.
If that wasn’t enough for the 10th Birthday Extravaganza, EXIT featured all genres of music from rock to rap, classical to chill, reggae to ska, punk to metal, dance to drum & bass and electronic to experimental including; The Herbaliser, zZz and Buzzcocks on the Fusion Stage and Buraka Som Sistema, Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank and Addictive TV on the Suba Stage. There were also some of the best local Serbian bands performing that were well worth checking out such as; Darkoood Dub, Overdrive and Objeni Program. Whilst Silent Disco made a first time appearance at an Eastern European festival which was quite a sight for many who had never seen anything quite like it!
Safe to say EXIT Festival’s 10th Anniversary was a truly amazing and incredibly inspiring experience for all those who performed, those who worked on the event and to all the festival go-ers alike. The warmth and the energy of everyone, along with the poignant history of the Exit festival reinforced its place in the European festival scene, proving yet again that it is probably the best festival in the world….
Long may the State of EXIT reign!
