Funky electro-beats meets indie rock

Indie punk/funk/electro kvartet MAHJONGG se drži sloves ene trenutno bolj vroèih skupin v Chicagu. Razlog, da o njih morda še niste slišali tièi najverjetneje v tem, da se je njihova specifièna glasba nekoliko težje ustolièila na lokalni sceni, saj se je skupina sprva posveèala preprostemu eksperimentiranju, iz katerega pa je nastal nadvse zanimiv glasbeni »groove« kolektiv.

Mahjong sta leta 2001 formirala pevec in kitarist Jeff Carillo in klaviaturist in tolkalec Hunter Husar. Skupina ni izgubljala èasa s pridobivanjem lokalne razpoznavnosti ter se  leta 2004 preselila v Chicago. Pri založbi Cold Crushed, ki sta jo taèas vodila Derek Fudesco (Pretty Girls Make Graves) in Steve Akoi (Dim Mak Records), je istega leta izdala odlièen EP prvenec »Machinegong«, ki mu je naslednjega leta sledil še prvi dolgometražni album »Raydoncong«. Zahvaljujoè odliènim kritikam in narašèajoèi bazi fanov so Mahjongg kmalu zatem podpisali s cenjeno založbo K Records (Dub Narcotic Sound System, Old Time Relijun, Chicks on Speed...) in v lanskem letu izdali drugi studijski album z naslovom "Kontpab".

Mahjongg v svojo glasbo kombinirajo ostro rabo elektronike, ironièno duhovitost in melodièen obèutek indie rocka ter ritmiènost funka in afro-beata, ki se spajajo v inteligenten, plesu prijazen rock. Na prihajajoèi evropski turneji, ki se bo v ponedeljek, 22. junija ustavila tudi v Ljubljani, bo njihove motoriène ritme, preobleèene v klasièno »indie« estetiko, možno preveriti tudi v živo; skupina namreè slovi tudi po odliènih živih nastopih!
