JONTY SKRUFFF Biography:
Jonty Skrufff DJs and produces cutting-edge, bass-driven electro-tech dance music, alongside publishing acclaimed sex-drugs-politics & music e-zine Skrufff-E (available weekly by clicking here: http://tinyurl.com/y9lce7a).
Five years after making his DJ debut at mega-hip Hoxton club Golf Sale (later renamed Boombox nowadays Ponytrap) he’s gone on to travel the world, spinning in 25 countries with numerous repeat gigs. Touring the likes of China, Czech Republic and Brazil (where he’s toured six times and returns every 8 months) he’s also a regular in Ibiza, where he’s played Judgement Sunday and Pacha for the last 3 years running, gaining a prestigious residency at Pacha in Summer 2009.
Looking into 2010, he’s already confirmed for repeat festival appearances in Sweden (Secret Island Festival), Bosnia (Neofest Peace Festival) and Indonesia (JADE Dance Festival) with bookings in London (Dogstar), Croatia (Sirup) and Czech Republic (Cabaret) rapidly filling up his diary.
Starting producing in 2009, he’s made a similarly immediate and impressive impact, most recently delivering a ferocious floor-friendly remake of techno-rockers Motor’s single ‘Death Rave (which came out on T Raumschmiere’s Shitkatapult in Europe and Steve Aoki’s Dimmak Records in the US in summer).
Jonty’s version was the only Death Rave remix released by each label alongside Motor’s original and picked up enthusiastic support from the likes of the Chemical Brothers (‘nice one on the track’) and Soulwax (‘LOVE it, will play for sure’) while German magazine Electronic Beats dubbed it a ‘masterpiece’.
More recently (January 2010) French independent music awards organisation Qwartz have selected his Death Rave remix as one of seven nominees for their Best track of 2009 in their ‘Dancefloor/ Clubbing’ category, out of 4,077 tracks Qwartz’ judges first listened to.
His very first production Train Wreck also gained a high profile after being snapped up by Radio 1 DJ Judge Jules in March 2009 who created his own version of Jonty’s electro-tech original and included it on his artist album Bring The Noise.
Jules’ tranced up edit (credited to Jules and Jonty jointly) was subsequently licensed to New State Recordings’ compilation Miami Trance Anthems as the last track following on from productions by the likes of Ferry Corsten, Tiesto and Cosmic Gate.
Additional career highlights so far include headline gigs at superclubs everywhere from Berlin (Tresor), Jakarta (Stadium), China (G Plus), Japan (Ageha), Croatia (Porat), Czech Republic (Roxy) and Ukraine (Opium) as well as prestige repeat slots at Serbia’s Exit Festival and Czech Republic’s Summer Of Love and a 12 month residency at London’s Fabric (DTPM).
And with a background which includes DJing at underground/ mixed clubs in London, Brazil and in his new home town of Berlin, the eyeliner-loving Brit remains as comfortable playing to fashion conscious hipsters as he is to the 6,000 Beijing locals who saw him headline the city’s first official (western) New Years event in 2007.
His next production, a remix of Lady B’s Believe In Me (titled Jonty Skrufff’s Apostle 13 Remix’) is a similarly crunching, electro-tech dance-floor destroyer, which comes out on Lady B’s Interférences in March 2010 (like Death Rave, on vinyl).
Jonty spends the rest of his time publishing his hugely influential and acclaimed weekly sex-drugs-clubs & politics e-zine Skrufff-E . He’s also just joined the Amsterdam Dance Event as a moderator and onstage interviewer and is a consultant for the Jakarta Annual Electronic Dance Music Event (JADE) in Indonesia.
