JAY FUNK (undergrounddjs/UK)
Jay Funk is a well established DJ in the East of England, regularly playing in clubs around the area and further afield. He is resident for Pams House and Phunky, the longest running and busiest club night in East Anglia, holding massive parties at the UEA, Norwich to sell out crowds of 1600 people. This summer saw Pams House link up with Tonic to put on parties in Ibiza and, of course Jay was there smashing the dance floor with his usual mix of funky chunky house. Playing weekly at Eden and Space Terrace, he rocked the crowds who loved his energetic mixing style and scratching which makes him stand out from many other DJs on the scene. This got him a set at one of the maddest parties on the island, Alex P’s birthday party at Space! His success also led on to other bookings on the island including residencies at Itaca, Play 2 and the Orange Corner (Twice as nice pre-parties). Other highlights of the season were a 3 and a half hour set on the Space Terrace at 10am with a dance floor full of crazy Italians and a 2 hour set at Bora Bora where the crowd went mad at the end of his set!!
Jay has been mixing for 11 years starting at the tender age of 13! He started out playing hardcore and as he got older and his mixing skills improved he managed to blag himself sets at raves around the area, even making guest appearances on the local radio station (Ipswich Community Radio).
As his musical tastes matured he started playing house and US garage until in 1995 he discovered the UK garage scene in London and he still played his house music, he decided to get involved in bringing the scene to the East of England. He gained residencies at Harmony and guested at virtually all garage events in the area. This led on to his own radio show on Flex FM, a well established pirate radio station, Starting various succesfull promotions including Finesse and Plush. Jay also brought Garage Nation to Ipswich and played at Inspiration. Jay also held a long term residency at Kartouche, Ipswich where he played alongside some of the biggest names in the scene. This success led on to him and two fellow DJ’s forming Finesse recordings, releasing several tracks on the label and also a string of remixes. Finesse is still going now, putting on very popular old school garage nights in Ipswich and surrounding areas.
Other highlights of Jays DJ career have included playing for Wildchild at Heaven in London, Ministry of Sound at Club Scarlet in Winterthur, Switzerland, Garage City in Bar Rhumba, London, Ibiza Reunion weekender, The Matrix in Reading and guest shows on Millenium Dance Radio and Unknown FM in London amongst many other clubs up and down the country.
Jay is now moving further afield with bookings confirmed in Europe as well as many UK dates, riding on his solid reputation for rocking crowds and his high standards of mixing.
He specialises in Funky/vocal and tribal house, but also plays UK garage (94-2002), House (87 - present day), old school hardcore and 70’s funk and disco.
