ABOUT JASON SPARKS:

Jason Sparks has been creating his own brand of Breakbeat and Downtempo music since the late 90s. His inspired, cutting-edge cinematic style has been embraced by many including BBC Radio 1s Annie Nightingale and the late John Peel. Producing almost all of his tracks in his own studio, Jason takes influences from an unusual selection of bands and artists such as Miles Davis, Portishead, early John Barry,Sebastian Tillier and My Bloody Valentine from which comes his own trademark style of film-score chords and blues influenced riffs over powerful basslines, beats and noises. Jasons debut release, Left to Live For, on Botchit and Scarper Recordings, hit the Breaks world by storm back in 1998 when it was first played in clubs. The track was later used for a well aired radio commercial advertising Adam Freelands then new Breakbeat Show on Kiss 100 FM. Jasons highly acclaimed 'Our People' followed in Feb 2000 by which time his name was well known in the Breaks scene. His Secret Place vocal track reached no 1 in 2003 on the Capital Radio Club Charts and was A-listed by BBC Radio 1 Xtra for 2 months. SKY TV even used one of his tracks to promote the overly popular Test Match in 2004 getting his music exposed to millions. Having collaborated with Atomic Hooligan on The Showdown, and remixed for Shara Nelson of Massive Attack fame he later had his own tracks remixed by a broad spectrum of the Breaks scenes movers and shakers including Deekline, Blim, Si Begg and Raw Deal. His debut album, Heroes and Villains was released in 2004 and received rave reviews in many music publications both in the UK and abroad including DJ Mag, International DJ and Jockey Slut magazines. DJ wise, in 2004 he headlined Budapests Breaks Heroes event, making it onto page 3 of the Hungarian Times. Last year he played the main stage of Estonias Sun Dance Music Festival and has played a number of Londons well know clubs including Herbal, 93 Ft East, The Telegraph and the old Bridge and Tunnel Club. He has also done 2 DJ mixes for BBC Radio 1 and he now hosts a weekly radio show with Mister Sushi on iBreaks radio. what the press say: "God I love it when something this good comes along. When an artist, an album, a production lives up to the hype. Finally the phrase cinematic soundscapes runs true. Jason Sparks has created a whole new side to breakbeat. He's found the beauty within the bass. And it's staying with me as I stumbled home from a nights clubbing I found myself hearing Sparks fly in my head. His moody melancholy on 'Pornography', his dance credentials on 'I'm In U' and his subtle sweetness on 'Secret Place'. Go get and witness a velvet revolution in breakbeat. Oh and watch out Moby Inc - here's someone actually doing the business. 5/5" -- DJ magazine reviewing 'Hereos and Villains' LP "Best yet is the tough but tender coup de grace from Jason Sparks 'Our People' which is a vital single in its own right" -- Muzik magazine, March '00 issue reviewing 'Urban Funk Breaks EP' with a 5/5 rating. "Don't know where they keep getting them from, but Botchit seem to have an unerring knack for uncovering funk-arse breaks-loving muthafuckas and Jason Sparks is the latest in that line" -- DJ magazine, Spring 04 reviewing the 'Jason Sparks EP' with a 5/5 rating The Story of O is a track of mammoth proportions, as carefully constructed melodies burst from sublime melancholy to explosive tragedy, taking in distant piano, strings & brass, riding on crunching breaks & thrashing cymbals, complementing & driving home Sirens powerful vocals. -- DMC update, February 2006, Essential Leftfield Tune 5/5 ---
